Passing through gates

Set up
-
Set up a large grid.
-
Use cones to mark out 4 small areas/gates.
Instructions
-
When in possession pass to team mates.
-
Defending team try to recover the ball and become attacking team.
-
Points scored for successful passes into the gates.
-
Teams can score in the same gate twice in a row.
Coaching Points
-
Focus on touch and weight of pass.
-
Encourage movement off the ball for pass options.
-
Encourage different points of attack e.g switching the ball.
Variations
-
Adjust the size of the square. Larger to make easier for Attackers, smaller to make easier for Defenders.

Add rule after 5 passes another defender joins.

One or two touches.
Winger v Defender Crossing

Set Up
-
Using the full third of the pitch mark out to wing areas.
-
Use centre circle for starting point.
-
1v1 in wings.
-
4v4 in the middle.
Instructions
-
Play first ball to the winger.
-
Defender cant press until the winger receives the ball.
-
Winger to best defender then cross to the centre.
-
Reset after loss in possession.
Coaching Points
-
Build confidence on using wings to attack.
-
Encourage defenders to block lines of pass.
-
Encourage different options for the cross e.g long or short pass.
Variations
-
After winger receives they play as pass inside and the run down the wing to receive before crossing.

Other Players allowed into the conned of areas to cross the ball.

Change numbers in the middle.
Rondo

Set Up
-
Using cones mark out a circular area big enough to accommodate everyone.
Instructions
-
A player on the outside of the circle starts with the ball.
-
Pass to an available team mate, look for lines of pass.
-
If you loose the ball replace the player who blocked the pass in the middle.
Coaching Points
-
Encourage floor passes.
-
Remind players to play the pass they would like to receive.
-
Encourage movement off the ball offer a line of pass.

Encourage communication through out the drill.
Variations

Smaller/ Bigger circle based on numbers.

Number of players in the middle.
